Terminal Engineer

IES is currently seeking a Terminal Engineer to join our team.  Under the general supervision of the Reliability Manager, the Terminal Engineer provides technical support to the Operation and Maintenance departments to troubleshoot and address operational or mechanical issues.  Desired competencies include accuracy, attention to detail, proven record of risk management and in-depth knowledge of mechanical integrity, rotating equipment reliability, engineering standards, equipment reliability.  Previous fuel terminal or refinery experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in a terminal, refinery, or power generation with an emphasis on fluid systems design, rotating equipment reliability, and piping system repair techniques.
  2. Experience working within terminal or refinery engineering, inspections, maintenance, or operation groups.
  3. Proven understanding of reliability and maintenance principles.

Skills

  1. Understanding of mechanical drawings & schematics, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Inspection Isometrics, etc.
  2. Proficient in using technology to aide work efficiency and processes (software, mobile devices, email, cloud services, and IoT (Internet of Things) integrations.
  3. Detail oriented with the acuity to determine level of detail relative to tasks to ensure efficient use of time.
  4. Strong sense of team spirit and ability to transfer it to others.
  5. Ability to work independently.
  6. Ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 Desirable Skills

  1. Proficiency with Maximo CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to track, visualize, and prioritize terminal WO’s (Work Orders) and PM (Preventive Maintenance) tasks.
  2. Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) systems with an emphasis on Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, Incident Investigations, Process Safety Information, and Process Hazard Analysis.

  2. Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
  3. This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
  4. Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
  5. Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.
  6. Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet project and task deadlines
  7. Willingness to maintain or increase skills.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. Provide mechanical designs for new systems with input from cross functional teams to meet operational requirements while complying with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
  2. Provide engineering support to operations & maintenance organization to troubleshoot bad actor equipment or resolve operational inefficiencies.
  3. Generate Scopes of Work (SOW) & Engineering Work Order (EWO) packages to maintenance/contractor execution teams which provide clear and concise instructions that lay out the technical requirements for a particular job/project. Assist with the formulation of Request for Proposal (RFP) SOW.
  4. Provide engineering support to Fixed Equipment Integrity (FEI) group to evaluate unusual corrosion, in-depth repairs, temporary repair applications, etc.
  5. Provide technical support to the operating units by addressing both short- & long-term reliability issues, provide input on equipment operating limits/alarms, & participate in incident investigations.
  6. Identify reliability trends in equipment and develop solutions to address shortcomings.
  7. Identify critical equipment that presents a Single Point Vulnerability for the company and develop mitigation plans to reduce operational risk.
  8. Participate in and lead MOC’s, PHA’s, & risk assessments to review the risks associated with a change or process and provide a mechanical engineering & design perspective.
  9. Review and update Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s). Update P&ID’s during MOC driven changes, administrative changes, and during verification efforts.
  10. Develop and implement Preventive Maintenance work orders (PM) to ensure that assets continue to operate in a safe and reliable manner.
  11.   12. Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, complies with all safety laws and IES safety policies\rules and reports actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further IES core value of safety.

  • This position frequently works in an outdoor environment under various weather conditions including but not limited to; rain, wind, sunlight, heat, changes in temperature and strong odors.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of times on hard and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment as necessary. Vision and depth perception are required.
  • Ability to bend, carry, push, pull, stoop, squat, twist and kneel in narrow spaces.
  • Ability to work unaccompanied at a rapid work pace for extended shifts of 12 hours or more, as assigned.

Compensation

The hiring salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annualized per year, commensurate with experience.
